What to expect in the 2016 Dodge Challenger
News of the 2016 Dodge Challenger has made waves among sports car enthusiasts. The upcoming model has not had all of the features and price details listed just yet, but Dodge has provided some information that makes us hopeful for the upcoming model.
There have been few exterior changes made by Dodge; the Challenger is a mean-looking vehicle already. The few changes that people can expect from the 2016 that aren’t a part of the 2015 design are:
- Bumpers: Slight changes to the way the front and rear bumpers look will be implemented.
- Headlights: Both headlights and taillights will be upgraded to LED technology, providing drivers with enhanced visibility.
- Wheels: The wheels are getting an upgrade with 20” alloy tires from Pirelli. Pirelli is the leader in sports tires, and is known for their traction and longevity.
These are the main exterior changes listed so far.
The same comfortable seating will be present in the 2016 Challenger. However, Dodge has decided to use Alcantara leather and to cover the steering wheel in leather as well. This will ultimately protect the hands from hot steering wheels in the summer while providing a better overall grip.
This model will also include:
- Large center console design
- Navigation system
- Wi-Fi connectivity system
- Added safety features
Very little has changed between models aside from slight technology changes, and the new leather used on the seats and steering wheel.
We expect a lot of performance-related news to come out in the coming months. The Challenger is already massively powerful, so we expect some big news in this department. Thankfully, the engine specs have been released and are impressive.
This model will feature 4 different options, with engine specs as follows:
- SXT: 3.6 liter V6 featuring 305 horsepower and 268 pounds of torque.
- R/T: 5.7 liter V8 engine featuring the HEMI design, 375 horsepower and 410 pounds of torque.
- Hellcat: A supercharged model that will have a 6.2 liter V8 engine with a staggering 700+ horsepower.
Dodge is known for having a few different models, such as the R/T Shaker and R/T Scat Pack, but these are all mere speculation at this point.
The price range for any of these models has not yet been released, but using information from the 2015 model, we can speculate a price range of at least $26,995 – $59,995. The Hellcat will be the most expensive option and really brings the intense horsepower that you would expect from a muscle car.
The Hellcat will be the one model receiving the fewest changes overall. There has been a major slow in production in 2015 due to the intense testing once the vehicle’s engine is manufactured. Unlike other models, the Hellcat’s powerful engine is tested for 42-minutes to ensure that it is working at peak performance.
When you sell 3,000+ of this model, you’re talking nearly 3 months of production being lost due to testing each engine. This slowed down things a lot despite the car’s huge demand.
Even the engine is staying relatively unchanged with the 2015 model featuring 707 HP. We can expect minor tweaks for the Hellcat, but it is already going to be one of the best performing vehicles of 2016 based off of its impressive performance.
Rumors have been circulating that the engine will be boosted to 721 horsepower, but Dodge has neither confirmed nor denied this rumor yet.
Right now, everything is mere speculation until Dodge decides to release more information about their 2016 lineup. There have even been rumors that the Hellcat will skip a year of production and not be released in 2016, but this would be a huge blow for a company going up against the 2016 Mustang.
